i was in the purse aisle of a store the other day, and this little girl of about 4 years old was helping her mother find a suitable purse and apparently had her own agenda too.
her mother asked her if she liked a red one and she said, "Mommy, i don't like red, so no, i don't like that purse for you". well, the coversation continued as follows:
Girl: (holding a fancy sequined purse) Mommy, is this age-appropriate for me?
Mom: Yes, Maya, it's age-appropriate, but it's really tacky.
Girl: That's okay, because tacky is my style.
Mom: You think so?
Girl: Tacky is my style, not yours, remember. I like tacky things.
rock on with your tacky-self, Maya. I like a 4 year old that knows her style; i'm sure she'll be secure for many years to come.

Maya rocks!
As a child...well maybe in junior high...I had the most tacky purse of all times. It was leopard print and horrible. Ask Michelle, her and her mother bought me a new purse for my birthday because they hated mine so much! For some reason, this is something I will never forget!
That conversation could very well have been verbatim from my life as a child.
