the tip of the iceburg, and shopping carts

alright folks.....the dangers of everyday life.

first of all, bagged lettuce is not safe and you should be really careful. there was a recent case (about a year ago) where 26 people in 3 states were deathly ill from a strand of E.coli(0157) that infected some bags of Dole pre-packaged lettuce. it might be convenient, but be careful with your leafy greens if you love your colon and want to hold onto it.

secondly, over 20,000 children in the US were given emergency treatment due to shopping carts. the most common injuries were fractures.
The article suggests finding alternatives or observing safety feautures (i.e. - straps)...but seriously which mother or father do you know could balance a shopping cart and a small or large stroller.
the article doesn't list alternative suggestions, but i'm having a hard time coming up with any myself.

  1. I saw this shopping cart thing on Good Morning America yesterday. It is kinda crazy...they said the number one reason for the accidents is the kids standing up in the carts...the solution - use the "safety belt" they provide.

They also showed how more and more grocery chains are providing those carts with "cars" on the front, low to the ground, for the kids to sit in instead.

  2. Ugh. In all honesty, I'm at a point in my life that I care less about kids falling out of carts and more about me having to touch a never-cleaned cart handle.

    (ew. I hate that.)

  3. Grocery shopping is dangerous! I long for the day when groceries will be delivered to my house through ordering on the Internet.

I don't need hurt kids or dirty cart handles or worry about having my car dinged because some jerk can't take 5 steps to put it in the nice cart corral that is provided. I mean really.

These are stresses the average American does not need in their daily life.
