memory

my new job has recently forced me to consider the theory of "muscle memory"; the thinking that, like muscles, we as humans react in ways that are familiar to us (in a way that our muscles do too).
i've noticed this 2 times in the last few days:
1). when i dial my phone at work, i go to dial a 6-digit code that i had to dial at my old job.
2). i drove my co-worker's car (it's a manual shift) one time, and the very next time i got in my car i went to push in the clutch and shift. i haven't owned a manual shift car in over 5 years.
