has it been noted....

.......that people treat their animals very differently in the South? well, they do. there are constantly stray cats and dogs (or animals that look like they belong to a certain house - as witnessed by the fact that they are sleeping in the middle of their dirt driveways) that are very dirty and not taken care of.
yesterday, after a VERY long day and having to drive 40 minutes to pick up my forgotten cell phone, this skinny cat approached me with a very large tumor hanging from its neck. it was sad and i cried for him/her.
and there are always the courageous turtles who attempt to walk across the busy roads (i haven't hit one yet!). it's kind of cute that they are brave enough to start slowly strutting across these busy thoroughfares.

despite my cat issues... I would've cried for him/her as well. That's so terribly sad.

I get distraught over a lost dog in my neighborhood, let alone an animal with a tumor who no one cares about.

I completely agree with your theory/statement. When my Mom moved to Missouri (which some argue is "midwest and not South"), I completely noticed this. Animals are strictly to be kept outside, not in the house, not loved, etc.

It's odd.
