two of my friends and i went to see Ben Stiller's new movie on Saturday night. it's rated R, thus you have to be (or appear to be) 17 to view the film.
well, let's remember now that i turn 29 years old in about 3 months.
i.got.carded.
i was a little shocked at first, thinking the young 20-something woman was just saying this to flatter me, so i pushed a bit for an answer:
20-Something: can i see your ID?
Me: sure, are you serious?
2-S: yeah.
Me: do i really LOOK that young, or is this protocol?
2-S: well, i didn't think you looked old enough
(i think i had THOROUGHLY embarrassed her at this point)
Me: i am really flattered, even though i'm almost 29, thanks for making that mistake!
(still think she was embarrassed, and did not card my friends who are 4 years younger than i am. i didn't mean to embarrass her!)
so, even though it DID take me off guard quite a bit, i will look back one day and appreciate this being-carded-for-not-looking-seventeen-moment!
