for all the negative press the Bush daughters have received over the years, i'd like to say that after watching Diane Sawyer interview Jenna Bush, i was inspired.
she appeared to be a really warm and lovely young woman, who has taught children in inner-city Washington DC and, most recently, is serving as a teacher in Jamaica for UNICEF.
she was shown teaching in these slum-like conditions, really sweaty and dirty looking, hugging kids and letting them play with her hair, and talking to the locals. no one there knew who she was supposedly.
she talked fondly of her father in his role as "Dad" and respects her parents very much and made the family seem so very pleasant and loving.
i respected that the interview was NOT conducted before an election and wasn't politically driven. it was primarily for her to speak about her life/experiences and share about a book she wrote about a young, single mother in Jamaica who is suffering from HIV/AIDS and share the message of the AIDS epidemic there.
she seems like a really wonderful person, and very inspiring.

I agree. Good for her for actually doing something positive with herself. SHE should be the model for young girls, not these tarts who waste their lives and talent on drugs and such.
Great post.
I agree too! I really like the girls. Also, I still love Jenna sticking her tongue out that time. Politics aside, I think they're a great family.
Good post, but wanted to note something from M's comment...
"SHE should be a model for young girls, not these tarts who waste their lives and talent on drugs and such"????
Do you realize how many cocaine and underage alcohol consumption charges have been levied against BOTH Bush twins?
Sounds like maybe she has cleaned up and is doing some good stuff.
M...I do not know who you are and mean no offense by my comments.
yeah, the Bush twins have - in the past - been known to get into trouble (don't MOST TEENS) - but they spent their time in the spotlight.....
i liked the way that she just blew right past all of this somehow. almost everyone has a past they ARE NOT really that proud of, so it was very nice to see that she is on track with doing something really generous and worthwhile.
Exactly malissa. They did it, it happened, lesson learned. They've grown up and are making themselves (well Jenna anyway, I don't know about the other one) into productive members of society.
I highly doubt that will happen with Lindsay or Britney.
i think it's funny that the twins are named Jenna and Barbara. Jenna seems so circa 1980's and Barbara (obviously after grandma) is just NOT a name you hear for young women that often (unique, but i wonder how she likes her name?)
