gotta love pet-ownership.

i was on the couch with my pug on saturday and she was sitting so i could see her little armpit and there was a black speck. i quickly reacted and lunged in to remove said black object....but alas the thing buried itself under her skin.
i started sweating and moving quickly, like any good owner would do, and took her into the bathroom and grabbed my old tweezers (NOT MY BELOVED TWEEZERMANS....no WAY!).
she was pretty calm and relaxed as i was trying to tweeze the tick out, but no such luck. i live in the LAMEST TOWN EVER, that apparently has vet clinics that ONLY see "regular patients" in an emergency. NICE! (so let me get this straight, you haven't established a "regular vet" so we cannot help you in an emergency?!!? okay, thanks - just wanted to clear up your heartless policies)
so, i speed down the highway at 80 miles an hour, Marlie is acting fine - taking a nap with a tick in her bloodstream - and FINALLY arrive 40 minutes later.
where they make me slowly fill out several paperwork items.
i'm still stressed.
Marlie is fine.
we finally get into the see the vet, but NOT before everyone in the office LAUGHS in my face for thinking it's a tick. apparently this is absolutely SO RARE. and of COURSE it happens to MY pug.
they numb her leg, shave the hair, and remove....NONE OTHER THAN A TICK!! yeah, whose laughing now?! i was NOT laughing when it cost me $130. next, they promptly show me the very large tick-head (ewww!).
also, i feel that maybe had i sacrificed the Tweezermans, maybe we wouldn't have landed ourselves at the vet. note: revlon tweezers SUCK for eyebrow and tick removal.
but my pug is fine and all is well in the world.

(petowners beware - apparently the revolution flea/tick/heartworm guard combination is NOT an effective one)

I hope this makes you feel better, but my Mom's dogs get ticks all.the.time. and they're still alive and fine.

She pulls them out, they squeal and they're good to go. She gets them tested regularly, but it's just their location.

I'm glad that Marlie (and your tweezerman's) are ok.

Oh, that sucks. You would think that the vets would want to help out, if for nothing more than creating a new customer. When my cat had a bowel situation I called our vet on the weekend and he said bring him on in. I am a loyal customer now b/c I know they will go above and beyond to help out my pets!

I hope she is feeling better now and you too! Sometimes these things are more intense for us rather than our pets.
