i've had several teachable moments at work today centered around the topic of my new hair color.
females must be socially trained to give compliments.
boys may not spend too much time developing this skill.
this is just my observation (not saying that ALL men are deficient, just a general statement, guys).
typical female response to new hair color: Oh, I LOVE IT!! (as they touch the hair and talk about the cuteness of the hair)
typical male response to new hair color: What did you do to your hair?!?!
Malissa's gem of knowledge imparted to 18 year-old boys today: You will not hurt your college counselor's feelings if you question her hair in this way. However, you WILL DEFINITELY hurt your future girlfriend's feelings if you make this statement. Please rephrase for the future, or tears will ensue. (sensitive - not ALL) Girls will say, while sobbing, "I can't believe I spent $80 on my hair and that's all you said. I'm changing it back tomorrow!!"

They are lucky to have run into you at this point in life. They will now have a happier life with their girlfriend/wife because of it.
I'm getting my hair colored on Fri. For the first time in a few years. Send me a picture of your hair. I'm not sure what to do with my color. Your color might inspire me and then I can copy it. :) :)
Very good advice!
I got a design wave done to my hair a few weeks back. My husband knew I was getting it done as he called me while I was still in the salon. I got home, gave him a hug and did that thing where I am messing with my hair and waiting for something, anything that shows he notices my hair.
A minute later the follow convo took place:
Him: "What is that smell? Is that your hair?"
Me: UGH "Yes it is my hair...I got that design wave."
Him: "Oh yeah, that's right. I forgot how much those things stink."
Me: "What do you think?"
Him: "Of the smell?"
Me: "Um NO, of how it looks? Do you like it?"
Him: "Oh yeah, it is really cute." pause " It justs smells."
Yes, that is my husband! :) I think he needed someone to teach him early on to just say it is cute and nothing else!
W.K. - I just need for you to know that c. just read me your post out loud. He thought it was HILARIOUS. His words, "I can hear T. saying that."
