All in a Day's Work: Saving Lives

i did, indeed, give blood today at work....and WHAT an experience.
i've done this before, but today was a first for me...an ACTUAL bloodmobile.
if i didn't have a complete (unreasonable) blind trust in humankind, i would have walked out...because the whole mobile full of Blood Takers came across as though they had NEVER done this before. supposedly their "computer system" was down, and the guy had to actually read me the questions about having sex for money and any jaunts i've taken to Africa. i guess that seeing it on paper and NOT on a computer screen REALLY THREW HIM OFF!!!
i can't even describe how unprofessional certain things were...like the woman who was taking my blood having rubber gloves on, but then wiping her nose with a tissue WITH THE GLOVES ON (does this NOT defeat the whole purpose of the gloves??)
the only other item that i'll note here, is the rock station they were streaming into the mobile was all Aerosmith (Janie's Got a Gun) and Jane's Addiction (Jane Says)- just kind of interesting background music for pumping blood into a bag.
oh, and i filled my bag in 6 minutes. i'm an overachiever i guess?

You are a true humanitarian. There were a lot of obstacles there. Some too great to overcome when blood is involved.

I would have left after the nose wiping. Ew.

Kudos for being a fast bleeder. Your body probably just wanted to get out of there :)

Okay, yuck about the nose wiping incident. I'm sure the gloves are basically to keep THEM safe, but still.....

Good for you for sticking with it. I would NOT have. I'm a baby when it comes to needles.

6 minutes is impressive!!! Good job. Every time I go to the Red Cross to donate, it is a total adventure.
