people who live in North or South Carolina call each state by it's respective, full name. people from other parts of the country (from the Midwest, for example) enjoy calling it "The Carolinas". which is true...there are two of them. i'm trying hard to liken this trend to something, but i can't think of it. The Dakotas don't seem quite as popular or sought after as The Carolinas though...so that could hardly count.
