ok, i'd like to introduce everyone to the luxury collection courtesy of FTD.com (the flower experts).
in searching for just the right gift to say "i'm sorry for your loss", i stumbled upon this 6-stemmed beauty that would only set me back, say, $450 PLUS SHIPPING.
nothing says "i am so sorry, i love you, thinking of you, and my bank account is in some serious trouble, come to think of it" like a graceful bouquet of cymbidium orchids.
ALL 6 STEMS!
you do the math. that's $75 PER STEM. yes, i just wasted my time doing that math, thank you very much.
as an aside, i'd like to send flowers to someone every month. but even on the cheap end, it's tough to justify things that die so quickly.
what else can you send (maybe something lasting) to someone who has lost a parent? it's a good friend's mother (who lost her mother) and i was thinking a piece of nice jewelry? a donation to charity? hmmmm......
in CASE YOU WERE WONDERING, no, she didn't get the cymbidium orchids.

That's ridiculous. My ENTIRE wedding bouquet was cymbidium orchids - and I'm sure they used just as many or more individual flowers than this pic. (it wasn't a small bouquet) and it was NOT $450. Plus we had a bunch in other places in our wedding - boutonnieres, reception stuff, etc. They definitely did not cost that much.
Whoah, that's way too much for flowers! When my father-in-law passed away last month, the flowers seriously got a little OLD after the fifth or so bouquet was delivered. We appreciated everyone's thought, but we ran out of space to put them, they started to die after a day, and quite frankly some of the arrangements weren't that nice, but I know people spent good money on them. I think your idea of jewelry or something like that would mean a lot more.
I want to know who even has this kind of coin?
It's never a waste of time to do math ;).
Um...they're really pretty...but not for $450.

HUH?
WHAT?
This doesn't even make sense. I think I would have sent FTD an email and told them that there CLEARLY is a typo on their website.
(MM - I love you. Yes, it's always a good time to do math, isn't it?)
WOW. That is ridiculous. Maybe the stems are dipped in gold :)
I think if there was a charity that was close to the mother's heart that is very nice. I like the jewelry idea and maybe add the mothers birthstone or something?!
