I will be your advisor for the coming year. I'm the Assistant Dean of
Undergraduate Studies, here in the College of Engineering. Please don't be
put-off by the title - I'm easy-going, approachable and love to interact
with students. I'm very informal, so you can call me "Kurt" - if you must
use "Dean" in your salutation, try "Dean Kurt" or "Dean KL." (Just remember
to not be disrespectful.)
Dean...err...Kurt...or....KL...err....wait, i'm confused. you tell me that you are easy-going, approachable and love to interact with students. you had me, all the way up until the point when you put in parentheses that i shouldn't be disrespectful.
uh....i'm a young adult, KL. why are you then treating me like i'm a pre-school child?
at least this is WHAT i would think if i was a student receiving this email from my easy-going, soon-t0-be advisor. i'd be on full-alert as to what to now call him that may or may not be offensive and, honestly, i'd be back at square one thinking he was a stuffy dean who should be called Dean So-and-So Last Name.
kids have it rough these days, i tell you.

Aw, bless his heart. (That is what people say in the south, right?)
Dean Kurt is trying to be hip to the slang with his peeps, but it appears that he's failing miserably. Sad.
(Love this, though. There's so much in the way of quotation marks and commas and emdashes -- I'm just overwhelmed. May the force be with your student.)
P.S. This is the perfect opportunity to explain to your student that virtually every interaction during our college years teaches us a lesson. This one: Don't be a douche.
Seriously?
Unbelievable!
I agree with Ky...tried to be cool but it is a huge FAIL!
Love these things!
