and the winner is...

The votes have been tallied (well, I was the only one who voted) and the winner of the 2006 “Event That Should Be Extinct” is…..the Miss Universe pageant. It’s hard for me to believe that it is still around.
Runners up: Miss USA, Miss Teen USA, Mrs. America, Miss America, etc.
In the clear, as in pageants that are still okay with me are: Miss Iowa Corn Princess, Bratwurst Queen, Miss Hog Festival, etc. - anything of the hometown pageant variety.
I MADE myself watch the swimsuit portion of the pageant, but couldn’t take anymore. As always, I naively expected that it would be educational and that watching would change my mind. 99% of their skeletal rib cages were grotesquely bursting out; I was disappointed that even the ladies from various worldwide cultures known for their curves were no different. They all looked Americanized and 20 years older than their profiles said they were.
I did take note of the stunning way they turned and snapped and flicked their hair while prancing in stiletto heels…you never know when you’ll need these skills.
The crowd was rooting for Miss Mexico, and I’ll bet they were saddened that Miss Puerto Rico was the gasping, babbling-cryer who won (i didn't see this though - only the swimsuit portion remember).
I was rooting for them all to gain 5 pounds around their mid-sections.
YOU TOO CAN CAST YOUR VOTE FOR THE 2006 EVENT THAT SHOULD BE EXTINCT!! VOTE HERE!!

  1. I am with you on the misunderstandings of the show. For everything I stand for (as far as women, etc) I'm not sure why I watch. And I cannot deny watching them nearly every time they are on...actually, maybe just one a year. But the highlight of last night was definitely seeing Miss USA in the PR gown (and the fact that Santino was a judge)!
