the most lost art of lost arts

my vote for the most detrimental lost art goes to: letter writing.

i was strolling down memory lane the other night, because i'm packing to move. i first flipped through my baby book, which helped me refamiliarize with the baby-me.

then i found my brother's (not sure why i have his) senior yearbook and then i found a huge envelope of letters written to me during my freshman year of college and during the summer after that when i was a camp counselor.

the year was 1998. cell phones were still for the upper socioeconic stratosphere. car phones may still have been as large as flute cases. i don't remember. from the content of the letters, i know it was hard to get a hold of me. i don't remember receiving most of these letters, but i'm POSITIVE that they made me happy.

i promise to write one letter a month. people will think i'm weird and they will not understand why i didn't call or write an email. i will repeat things i said to them a day ago or i will tell them info. already in the letter before it arrives. but who cares.

i'm excited to bring this lost art back.

  1. You are so right-on-the-money.

People love letters, notes and cards. I think that correspondence is a lost art. Kudos to you for starting anew with one letter per month.

I wish you all the best with this venture. GREAT idea.
