is this a southern thing?

ok, for at least the last month and a half, there is a tax return business in this southern VA town where i live.
they advertise and try to drum up business by placing a person (or two) outside on the sidewalk dressed up as the statue of liberty. she (or they) are holding a walkman (yes, i said walkman) in their hand dancing and singing and waving people in to get their tax returns done.
this occurs as early as 9 am and as last as 6 or 7 pm. nonstop. the statue is dancing and singing and stirring up all kinds of commotion in order to get you to come file your taxes. is this happening here because it's a warmer climate? (i assume so) and, honestly, i haven't seen this type of advertising tactic used outside of cheerleaders cheering for you to come get your car washed.

we have this in BG! We have a Tax place and they have the statue of liberty and/or Uncle Same standing outside their office. They have a sign telling people to get their taxes done and they dance around.

I would hate doing that....it is SO cold! But they are out there, pretty much everyday! Weird.

You know, whatever works.

Ha! We have Liberty Tax Service here in Columbus, too. Same dancing statue, only wearing a ski mask and the dancing is most likely an attempt to stay warm.

This happens in Findlay, too. Right on Tiffin Ave. It's Liberty Tax Service here as well and I really think they look kind of creepy! :)
