take this advice: NEVER.HOME.MAKE.BUCKEYES! NEVER
listen, i thought that because OHIO is in my blood...born and raised, folks....that i could successfully make buckeyes. make them with my eyes shut, even.
boy, was I MISTAKEN!
this is the most labor-intensive "candy" ever to be made (okay, i don't have a lot of experience...but still). the process goes on and on and on...
and, so what if i put 2 sticks of butter instead of one.
and, so what if i THINK i bought the wrong chocolate.
you do the math: 1 extra stick of butter + 2 different kind of chocolate that were BOTH unsuccessful + 4 pots for melting chocolate + 2 spatulas and 4 other utensils + using an unused nail for dipping b/c i had NO toothpicks = ONE HUGE DISASTER!
all this because the kids at work wanted me to make them. ugh. i conclude: NEVER AGAIN

I credit you for even trying. I've always wanted to, but have heard horror stories.
Way to go.
10 pts. for trying.
Yes, kudos for trying! I have never attempted and I don't know if I ever will...it just seems like so much work. But boy are they yummy when other make them!
my friend makes them every year and she says it is not worth it to make a small batch. She said if you are going to make them go all out and make ALOT! B/c it is so much trouble and time that you are not going to want to make them again for another year!
I always 'order' a batch from my friend Lynn when she makes them because I don't have a double boiler (which she says is the secret).
